With the recent announcement that the UK government has opened a path to citizenship for more than 300,000 Hong Kong residents,* the question is where are they going to work and live?
According to the New York Times: “Mr Johnson said the roughly 350,000 Hong Kong residents who hold a British overseas passport, as well as some 2.5 million who are eligible to apply for one, would be granted 12-month renewable visas that would allow them to work in Britain and put them on a path to citizenship.”
Now, we’re not sure many international movers or Hong Kong information points have South Lincolnshire on their radar. It’s likely many will favour the larger conurbations within the UK.
But, with new quality housing developments in the region that are close to good transport networks and local amenities, Lincolnshire should be a serious contender for residents coming over from Hong Kong.
While there is no way of telling what percentage of the 350,000 Hong Kong nationals eligible will end up relocating in the UK, Lincolnshire has so much to offer…
- Beautiful coastlines
- Open countryside
- Fascinating tourist attractions
- Quaint market towns
- Independent stores and eateries
- Rural, slower pace of life.
It is fair to say that Lincolnshire is a far cry from the busy city streets of Hong Kong and Kowloon Bay!
